Looking at art

Art from the Low Countries through time

From the Flemish Primitives through Bruegel and Rubens to Ensor and Magritte: six centuries of art from our part of the world, and where you can really go and see it today.

Second stage of secondary school13 to 16 yearsDraft: Not yet checked by an art teacher.

Why

Why do people come from all over the world to Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp to look at old paintings?

For centuries, artists who are among the best known in the world worked in our region. Their work hangs in museums and churches, sometimes a few kilometres from your school.

If you know the big picture, you recognise a work more quickly and know where to go and look.
